There is nothing worse than sitting at your desk and feeling like the walls are about to cave in on you. You can’t reach anything and you have so much stuff piled around you that you can barely breathe. You will be happy to know that regardless of how small your space is, there is no need to feel cramped. All you need to do is a little reorganizing and a corner desk is the best place to start.
When you have a larger standard desk, you are setting yourself up for failure. You can have all the space in the world, but when you can’t get to things and have to break the flow in order to get something, what is the purpose of such a huge desk? Let me guess, you need the space for all of your stuff. Well wouldn’t it make sense to have the same work space but somehow have it restructured into a smaller area?
That is exactly what you get when you use a corner desk. If you were to actually straighten one out, you would be amazed at how huge they are. However, they take up only about 75% of the space because of how they are constructed to fit into a corner. Not only that, but all of that space under the desk that is usually wasted can now be moved because you will barely have to move your chair to reach from one end of the desk to the other.
A common design on corner desks is to have a built in ledge in the center piece for a computer or monitor. This is a huge asset as you not only have a place for that, but can often use the area underneath for storage of your discs. This means all of your vital information may never be any further than your fingertips.
Now with everything in such close proximity, the space that is usually not used under the desk can house a few file cabinets. Remember all of that time that you used to waste going from one end of the office to the next to fetch files. Forget about it, your files are right next to you now.
You are also going to have two large ‘wings’ on either side of you that you can now place some shelving for all of your supplies and other files. You can put that stuff on one side and then place your copier, phone, fax machine or any other large equipment that you have on the other side. You have taken what was all over the office and condensed it into one small, but very effective space.
Now instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off, you are working effectively and have also opened up your space to make it more enjoyable to work in. You will have everything within reach and also have a much more attractive work area. Who knows, you can even put in a nice plant to make the place almost normal again.
Tight working spaces often lead to unhappy employees and that means a lack of production. Open the space up with a nice corner desk and get that productivity up. When that happens the boss is always smiling and that is good for everyone.
If you have never worked with a Corner Desk, you have no idea what you are missing. They are like the Cadillac’s of the desk world. The beauty of them is that the set up is ideal for people that have a lot of ‘stuff’ on their desk that they need to have access to. Furthermore, you can make much better use of the space because you should never have to move from your position if you set things up right.
